It’s so easy these days for me to wander away from projects that aren't on deadline.
And then it takes me forever to reengage with the work, if I can even remember where I left it.
When it’s the other way around and I’m immersed in something, I can think about it and dream about it and obsess about this one line—I love that feeling of wanting to care for a story with a little bit of anxious obsession.
If I’ve been away for a while, it’s more like, "Wait, what was this supposed to be about?”
But you can reengage that immersed feeling—you have to go to your story--and you have to start by listening to it—don’t lead with your big ideas—you have to listen first, just sit there with it reading and listening and pretty soon you start to remember why you liked it—how it brought you joy—and that moment is so fun!
It gives me a little thrill to reconnect, and thrills are hard to come by these days.
